![]() ![]() Scott Ouderkirk is an artist, author and craftsman who teaches and lives in Addison, NY. Scott works in stained glass and pen & ink. His stained glass work is done using traditional and contemporary methods. The traditional method, which was first used during Medieval times, involves drawing or painting on the glass and then kiln-firing it. Some images demand several firings which deepen the tonal values and depth. Contemporary methods used colored glass cut into shapes and surrounded by lead came or foil. Scott takes pride in his work, family and whatever project he is currently involved in, right now a 1962 VW Beetle. He spends the spring riding and racing bicycles on the roads of the Southern Tier and then travels to the North Country of New York in the summer to cruise the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in his 1964 32' Luhrs wooden boat, Pen & Ink. Scott is a graduate of SUNY Oswego (BS in Technical/Vocational Ed), Syracuse University (MA in illustration) & University of Hartford (MFA in illustration). His books include Fallen Heroes, Sunday Drive, The Adirondack Run, Island Images, Barns and Wood, Waves and Wispy Smoke. He was published in WoodenBoat January 2004 and was asked to write and illustrate the feature article for the Antique Boat Museum’s The Gazette Annual 2004. Scott’s work is found in many private collections and the permanent collection of Mansfield University in Pennsylvania. |
